o
In this article, a teacher returns to her
classroom after Hurricane Irma and find that her books are all gone from the
book shelf. The school was used as an evacuation shelter during the hurricane. Ms.
Cothron, was attached to her books because most of them were signed by authors.
Someone stole the books that the kids used as their way to advance in reading.
o
The problem here is that even during a trying
time like a dangerous storm, there are still people in this world who does criminal
activities like steal books from a school.
o
The criminals are the one with the problem. They
don’t have an untainted heart. To be in a shelter because of a dangerous storm
and still have the audacity to steal from a place who is sheltering you. They
have a serious problem.

When elders are in peril, who do you call- 911
or Rick Scott cell? By Mary Ellen Klas, Carol Marbin and Daniel Chang,
Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau
o
This article is about the aftermath at a South
Florida Community Hospital in Hollywood.
This psychiatric hospital was at its full capacity with mentally ill
patients after Hurricane Irma made her way through the south. The air conditioner stopped working and the
windows could not be opened. Instead of calling 911 for assistance, the
director wrote an email to the closed office of the Broward County
Commissioner. The email was not received
until days later. Gov, Rick Scott, gave his personal number to caregivers in a
conference call. He stated that in an emergency to call him. Many nurses attempted
to reach him, the calls failed to yield essential assistance. Many facilities as such took the advice to
contact the Governor in emergency situations as such and received mixed
results.
o
The problem with this situation is that there
isn’t a substantial protocol in place to be followed in a state of emergency.
Lives have been ruined due to the lack in the states strategy for assistant
living care-givers.
o
The care facilities and the governor officials
are the ones with the problem. The proper standards need to be learned and
enforced by the care givers to keep these patients safe. The governor’s office
need to be able to respond if they provide contact information in the event of
an emergency.

Romano: One person, one vote is not really
accurate when it comes to Florida By John Romano, Times Columnist
o
This article is about the difference between two
parts of the city in St. Petersburg mayoral election ballot. One side of St.
Pete’s section counts as three votes and in the other part of the city, the
ballot counts as one. The presidential
vote in Florida has a lesser value than anywhere else. So pretty much, Florida votes really don’t
carry much weight. Basically, Florida
has better results with their voters than large population states.
o
The problem is that Florida feels cheated
because they are penalized for because they are diligent. The system in place in order to calculate
votes is not accurate to Florida Voters. They shouldn’t be penalized because
they have more people that actually vote.
o
Floridians are the ones with the problem. No one
else sees and issue with the way the electoral votes are handled.

Study: Gym equipment is dirtier than public
toilet By Johari Canty
o
This article is about a study done on gym
equipment that proves a public restroom is less dirty. Study shows that bacteria, MRSA and Fungus
can all be found inside of a gym. With
the amount of traffic that goes through the gym and utilize the equipment
without wiping them down after, it shouldn’t be surprising. According to gym weights have 262 times more
bacteria than a toilet seat.
o
The problem here is that the gym is covered in
germs because many people use the equipment and do not disinfect after use.
o
Gym members and the gym itself have the problem.
Each of these articles you found definitely contain problems and opportunities! My sister is an elementary school teacher and her school was also a shelter during Irma, but luckily her books were safe! I cannot believe that they would steal from the place that is opening their doors to keep them safe. And the gym article hits close to home- when I go to the local gym I NEVER see anyone wipe down the machine after they are done. I bet they would if they knew how much bacteria is on there.
